Black Bulls
Asta
Short, gray-haired and loud, the orphan Asta has no mana at all, so he trains his body relentlessly and swings Anti-Magic swords drawn from a five-leaf grimoire, rising from the Black Bulls to become the youngest Wizard King.
Shipwrecked in the Clover Kingdom as a boy from the Land of the Sun, stubble-faced Yami Sukehiro captains the Black Bulls, slashing with a Dark Magic katana and driving his squad with a signature order: "Surpass your limits."

Silver pigtails, a haughty royal air and a habit of blasting Asta with water when flustered are Noelle Silva's trademarks. Mocked by her siblings for poor magic control, she trains with the Black Bulls until her Sea Dragon's Roar hits home.
Nicknamed the Uncrowned Undefeated Lioness, vermilion-haired Mereoleona Vermillion is a royal brawler who hunts in the wilderness most of the year, bathes in lava and punches with fire shaped like a lion's paw. She leads the Crimson Lions while Fuegoleon is in a coma.

Asta's foster brother and rival, black-haired, gold-eyed Yuno fights for the Golden Dawn with a four-leaf grimoire and the wind spirit Sylph. Born into the House of Grinberryall, the fallen royal family of the Spade Kingdom, he later rises to captain.
A sun-shaped mark on his forehead and a smug smile belong to Lucius Zogratis, the eldest Zogratis sibling and host of the devil Astaroth. Born sharing a body with his twin Julius, he wields Soul and Time Magic, plotting to remake and rule humanity.
The horned anti-bird Nero who sticks with Asta from his entrance exam is really Secre Swallowtail, servant of the first Wizard King, transformed after sealing him in stone 500 years ago. Back in human form, she joins the Black Bulls with Sealing Magic.
Under a wide-brimmed witch's hat, pink-haired Vanessa Enoteca drinks hard, mends her squad's clothes with Thread Magic and spins the Red Thread of Fate, a cat of red thread that bends fate. Freed from the Witch Queen's cage by Yami, she later becomes the Black Bulls' vice-captain.

Golden Dawn
William Vangeance
Behind an ornate mask from Julius, William Vangeance hides the scar a curse left across the upper half of his face. The Golden Dawn captain wields World Tree Magic and shares his body with Patry, the elf leading the Eye of the Midnight Sun.
Four bat-like wings, four curved horns and red eyes with slit pupils belong to Lucifero, the King of Devils. With one gesture, his Gravity Magic can make even the strongest mages collapse, and the Dark Triad's Dante Zogratis draws on his power.
Clad in armor and a fin-crested helmet, Blue Roses captain Charlotte Roselei fights with Briar Magic whose roses turned blue under a childhood curse. The cool beauty hides her love for Yami behind a prickly front and later marries him.
Endlessly curious and utterly cruel, Megicula is one of the highest-ranking devils, bound to Vanica Zogratis, with ram-like horns, three eyes and wings covered in more eyes. Humans are its favorite test subjects, and its Curse-Warding Magic killed Noelle's mother, Acier Silva.
A braid ending in a Silva family pendant hangs between Nozel Silva's eyes. The royal Silver Eagles captain wields Mercury Magic and is cold to his sister Noelle, who looks so much like their late mother that he fears losing her too.
With a spiked gold crown and a black mark across his forehead, Dante Zogratis hosts the devil Lucifero as one of the Dark Triad, reshaping his body with Body Magic and crushing foes with Gravity Magic. He sees evil as humanity's true nature.

Devils
Zagred
Five hundred years ago, the devil Zagred slaughtered the elves and framed humans for it in his plan to manifest in the real world. Black wings, an arrow-tipped tail and extra mouths mark his body, and his Word Soul Magic reshapes his surroundings with words.
Big black circles of eyeshadow, black lipstick and a peaked cap give Gordon Agrippa a grim look, but the Black Bulls' poison mage and curse expert just wants to be everyone's friend. His constant mumbling is simply too quiet for most people to hear.
A black cross-shaped mark over his left eye singles out Zenon Zogratis, the quiet Dark Triad member who skewers foes with tangles of sharp bones and traps them in spatial cubes. He hosts the devil Beelzebub and believes only power matters.

Black Clover manga posters
Asta, Noelle Silva, Yami Sukehiro and Yuno star in our Black Clover manga posters. Instant download, print at any size.
Asta and Yuno grow up as orphans at a church in the village of Hage, and both dream of becoming the Wizard King, the greatest mage of the Clover Kingdom. At 15, Yuno receives a four-leaf clover grimoire, while Asta, who has no magic power at all, receives a tattered five-leaf grimoire with a devil, Liebe, living inside. Yuno joins the Golden Dawn, the top squad of the Magic Knights, and Asta joins the rowdy Black Bulls under Captain Yami Sukehiro. There he teams up with Noelle Silva, a royal whose enormous water magic rarely goes where she aims it.
The Black Bulls: Every Member
The Black Bulls have a reputation as the most destructive squad in the Magic Knights: their missions often did more harm than the threats they were sent to stop, which left them with a negative star count. Captain Yami Sukehiro takes in misfits no other squad wanted, among them the battle-hungry Luck Voltia, the witch Vanessa Enoteca and Gauche Adlai, who lives for his little sister. Their crooked headquarters in the woods keeps changing its layout thanks to Henry Legolant's Recombination Magic. Once Asta arrives, the squad wipes out its black stars and finishes second at the Star Awards Festival, and it is still the only squad with devils among its members.
The devil living in Asta's grimoire, who gives him Anti-Magic
The Magic Knight Squads and Their Captains
The Magic Knights guard the Clover Kingdom in nine squads, each led by a captain who holds the rank of Grand Magic Knight and answers to the Wizard King. Successful missions earn a squad stars of excellence, and every year the Star Awards Festival crowns the squad with the most stars. The Golden Dawn usually sits at the top of that count, while the Black Bulls start out deep in the red. Each squad has its own insignia and robe, and royals usually join their family's squad, like the Silva family's Silver Eagles or the Vermillion family's Crimson Lions. The squads, with the captain who leads each one:
Called the Gray Deer under Julius Novachrono, until Rill, the youngest captain ever, changed its color to aqua
The Wizard Kings
The Wizard King leads the Magic Knights as the kingdom's mightiest mage, with military authority equal to that of the king himself. The title began 500 years ago with Prince Lumiere Silvamillion Clover, who defended humanity from a giant demon, and when the story opens it belongs to Julius Novachrono, the 28th Wizard King and once the captain of the Gray Deer squad. Earlier Wizard Kings, among them Princia Funnybunny and Conrad Leto, appear in the 2023 movie Sword of the Wizard King. In the end, Asta's dream comes true: he becomes the 29th Wizard King, the first peasant, the youngest person and the first person with no magic to hold the title.
Asta's Swords and Grimoire
Asta fights with Anti-Magic swords that he draws from the pages of his grimoire without spending any magic. His first, the Demon-Slayer Sword, cuts through spells with its edge and bats them back with its flat. The Demon-Dweller Sword soaks up magic and releases it as a flying slash, and the Demon-Destroyer Sword severs cause from effect, undoing damage a spell has already done. When Yami Sukehiro hands Asta his katana, the Anti-Magic in Asta's devil arm turns it into the Demon-Slasher Katana. The first three swords once belonged to the elf Licht. The more of Liebe's power Asta draws on, the more devilish he looks in his Black Asta form, and the two can fuse in Devil Union.
Sword
What it does
Demon-Slayer Sword
Asta's first sword, a giant blade whose edge slices magic apart and whose flat sends it flying back
Demon-Dweller Sword
Drinks in enemy spells to fire them back as slashes, and links Asta to allies to share Anti-Magic
Demon-Destroyer Sword
Severs cause from effect to undo a spell's effects, even poison damage and reincarnation
Demon-Slasher Katana
Yami's katana, turned into an Anti-Magic blade by Asta's devil arm
Black Clover Devils
Devils are ancient beings from the underworld, a bleak realm of seven levels where they pass the time tormenting each other and toying with humans. Each devil is born into a rank, from low-ranking to highest-ranking, and never disobeys one above it. The highest-ranking devils are tied to the Tree of Qliphoth, and three of them, Lucifero, Beelzebub and Astaroth, rule the deepest level with power over gravity, space and time. A human host can borrow a devil's magic, and only magic of the highest stages, negative mana or another devil's magic can counter their spells. The devils, their hosts and their powers:
No host: emerges from the first gate of the Tree of Qliphoth
Devil Ice Magic
Naamah
No host: emerges alongside Lilith
Devil Flame Magic
The Dark Triad and the Spade Kingdom
The Dark Triad are three Zogratis siblings who rule the Spade Kingdom through fear after seizing it from the House of Grinberryall, Yuno's own royal family. Dante Zogratis hosts Lucifero, Vanica Zogratis hosts Megicula and Zenon Zogratis hosts Beelzebub, all highest-ranking devils. The siblings share part of that power with their Dark Disciples. To open the Tree of Qliphoth, a channel to the underworld, they kidnap William Vangeance and Yami Sukehiro, whose World Tree Magic and Dark Magic the ritual needs. Behind them all stands the oldest sibling, Lucius Zogratis, the host of Astaroth, who has been hiding in the Clover Kingdom using the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, as his cover.
The Elves and the Eye of the Midnight Sun
Five hundred years ago, Licht, the leader of the elves, was a friend of Prince Lumiere Silvamillion Clover and married the prince's sister, Tetia. On their wedding day the elves were massacred in a plot by the devil Zagred, who imitated Lumiere's Light Magic so that Licht would believe his friend had betrayed him, and who then used Reincarnation Magic to keep the elves' souls from moving on. Centuries later, Patry awakens first, inside the body of William Vangeance, and founds the Eye of the Midnight Sun to revive the other elves in human hosts and take revenge on the kingdom. Its three strongest fighters form the Third Eye.
Black Clover Heights and Ages
Heights in centimeters, with feet and inches, from the character profiles. Asta stands just 155 cm (5'1"), shorter than Noelle Silva at 161 cm (5'3") and well below his rival Yuno at 172 cm (5'8"). Jack the Ripper, the rangy captain of the Green Praying Mantis, is the tallest human here at 197 cm (6'6"), and only the devils Zagred and Lucifero top him, at 211 cm and 210 cm (both 6'11"). Charmy Pappitson, who is part dwarf, is the shortest at 142 cm (4'8"), while Secre Swallowtail measures just 8 cm in her bird form, Nero.
The anime's Japanese voices and its English dub cast. Gakuto Kajiwara voices Asta in Japanese and Dallas Reid in English, while Yuno is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki and Micah Solusod. Noelle Silva is played by Kana Yuki in Japanese and Jill Harris in English, and Yami Sukehiro's voice belongs to Junichi Suwabe in Japanese and Christopher R. Sabat in the dub. Liebe gets new voices near the end of the anime: from Episode 169 and in the 2023 movie, Nobuhiko Okamoto and Bryce Papenbrook take over from Kenichiro Matsuda and Cris George.

Lucius Zogratis, the final villain, is the most powerful: as the self-proclaimed Wizard Emperor he taps into the magic of every grimoire tower in the kingdom, and it takes Asta and Yuno fighting side by side to defeat him. Among the heroes, Asta and Yuno finish the story as the strongest, with Asta crowned the Wizard King. Our strongest characters ranking lets you vote for your own pick.
Does Asta become the Wizard King?
Yes. Asta succeeds Julius Novachrono as the 29th Wizard King, and no peasant, no one so young and no one without magic had held the title before him. Yami Sukehiro then retires from the Black Bulls and forms his own Special Reserve Corps, while Nacht Faust becomes the squad's new captain.
How tall is Asta?
Asta is 155 cm (5'1") tall, short for a Magic Knight, and he makes up for it with a muscular body built through years of hard training. Yuno, by comparison, measures 172 cm.
How old are Asta, Yuno and Noelle?
All three are 15 when the story begins: Asta and Yuno receive their grimoires on turning 15, and Noelle Silva joins the Black Bulls the same year. In the finale they are 20. Asta and Yuno even share a birthday, October 4, while Noelle's is November 15.
Who is in the Black Bulls?
Captain Yami Sukehiro and vice captain Nacht Faust lead Asta, Noelle Silva, Secre Swallowtail, Vanessa Enoteca, Grey, Charmy Pappitson, Luck Voltia, Zora Ideale, Magna Swing, Finral Roulacase, Gauche Adlai, Gordon Agrippa and Henry Legolant. The devil Liebe, who lives in Asta's grimoire, counts as a member too.
Who is Liebe in Black Clover?
Liebe is the devil inside Asta's grimoire and the source of his Anti-Magic. Born without magic on the underworld's first level, he was raised by Asta's mother, Licita, until Lucifero killed her, and he swore to wipe out every devil. After the Devil-Binding Ritual, he and Asta become partners on equal terms. Other major devils include Megicula, Zagred and Lucifero, who rules the underworld.
Who voices Asta in English and Japanese?
Dallas Reid voices Asta in the English dub, and Gakuto Kajiwara voices him in the original Japanese. In the Jump Festa 2016 OVA, made before the TV series, Shun Horie voiced him.
Who are the Dark Triad in Black Clover?
Dante Zogratis, Vanica Zogratis and Zenon Zogratis, siblings who took over the Spade Kingdom and host the devils Lucifero, Megicula and Beelzebub. Their eldest brother, Lucius Zogratis, turns out to be the final villain of the story.
How can I vote for my favorite character?
