Prayer beads bind Miroku's right hand to seal the Wind Tunnel, a family curse from Naraku that pulls in everything nearby and threatens to swallow Miroku himself. Undaunted, the roguish monk in gold hoop earrings happily fleeces rich clients.

Inuyasha manga posters
Inuyasha, Kagome Higurashi, Kikyo, Sango and Sesshomaru star in our Inuyasha manga posters. Instant download, print at any size.
The story begins when Kagome Higurashi, a 15-year-old girl from modern Tokyo, falls through the Bone-Eater's Well at her family's shrine and lands in feudal Japan. There she frees Inuyasha, a half-demon who has been pinned to the Sacred Tree for 50 years, and soon shatters the Shikon Jewel by accident, scattering its shards across the land. The two set out to gather the shards before demons can use their power, joined along the way by the young fox demon Shippo and the monk Miroku, who carries a cursed Wind Tunnel in his right hand. Sango, a demon slayer, completes the group with her two-tailed cat demon Kirara, who can transform into a large flying cat.
Inuyasha's Family: Father, Mother and Brother
Inuyasha's father is Toga, the Great Dog Demon who once ruled the Western Lands, and his mother, Izayoi, is a human princess, which makes Inuyasha a half-demon who belongs fully to neither world. Sesshomaru, his older half-brother, is a full dog demon. He scorns humans, Inuyasha's human blood included, and wants their father's sword Tessaiga (Tetsusaiga) for himself. Sesshomaru's Mother, a proud dog demon lady every bit as aloof as her son, appears later in the story.
Inuyasha and Kagome argue all the time, and whenever Kagome tells him to sit, the magic beads around his neck slam him to the ground, yet the two always have each other's backs. Before Kagome there was Kikyo: 50 years earlier, Inuyasha fell in love with the priestess who guarded the Shikon Jewel, until the day they turned against each other and she sealed him to the Sacred Tree. Miroku and Sango, the monk and the demon slayer, grow closer with every battle they fight side by side. Sesshomaru's bond with Rin is of another kind: the cold demon lord lets a little human girl travel with him, and she follows him everywhere with complete trust.
Inuyasha Swords and the Shikon Jewel
The swordsmith Totosai forged two swords from the fangs of Toga, the Great Dog Demon: Inuyasha's Tessaiga, called Tetsusaiga in the English dub, can cut down a hundred demons with a single swing, while Sesshomaru's Tenseiga cannot cut the living but can bring the dead back to life. Sesshomaru later wields two more blades, the cursed Tokijin and Bakusaiga. So'unga, a demonic sword of Toga's that can raise the dead, appears in the third movie, Swords of an Honorable Ruler. The Shikon Jewel is no sword, but it is the treasure everyone fights over: even a single shard makes a demon far stronger.

Inuyasha's Forms: Half-Demon, Human and Full Demon
As a half-demon, Inuyasha has silver hair, golden eyes, dog ears and sharp claws. Once a month, on the night of the new moon, he turns human, with black hair and none of his demon strength, a secret he guards closely. His sword Tessaiga (Tetsusaiga) keeps his demon blood in check. When his life is in danger and the sword is not at his side, that blood takes over: jagged purple marks appear on his cheeks, his eyes turn red and he becomes a savage full demon who loses himself in the fight.

Naraku and His Incarnations
Naraku is the cunning villain of the story: he wants the complete Shikon Jewel for himself, and he placed the curse of the Wind Tunnel on Miroku's family. He rarely fights in the open, sending out incarnations he creates from his own flesh instead. Kagura, the Wind Sorceress, attacks with blades of wind from her fan and longs to be free, while the silent Kanna can steal souls with her mirror.

The Band of Seven
The Band of Seven is a group of ruthless mercenaries brought back from the dead with Shikon Jewel shards to fight for Naraku. Their leader, Bankotsu, is the youngest of the seven at just 17, yet he swings his giant halberd Banryu with ease. Jakotsu fights with his snake sword, a segmented blade that shoots out and twists through the air to strike from any angle. The others each have a style of their own, from fire and poison to steel claws and cannons.

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon
Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, the sequel anime that aired from 2020 to 2022, continues the story with the next generation. Sesshomaru's twin daughters, Towa Higurashi and Setsuna, are separated as children: Towa grows up in modern Tokyo, raised by Kagome's younger brother Sota, while Setsuna becomes a demon slayer in feudal Japan. Together with Moroha, the quarter-demon daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, they take on Kirinmaru, who rules the Eastern Lands. The Yashahime characters on our list: Moroha, Towa Higurashi, Kirinmaru and Setsuna.
Inuyasha Voice Cast
The Japanese voices of the anime and the English dub cast. Kappei Yamaguchi voices Inuyasha in Japanese and Richard Ian Cox in English. Kagome is voiced by Satsuki Yukino in Japanese and by Moneca Stori in the English dub, with Kira Tozer taking over the English role from The Final Act on.
Ages as each character first appears in the story. Inuyasha has lived about 200 years but looks 15, since half-demons age slowly and he spent 50 of those years asleep under Kikyo's seal. Kagome is 15 when she first lands in the feudal era, and Sesshomaru looks about 19, though as the older half-brother he has lived even longer than Inuyasha.
Our popularity ranking, shaped in part by your votes, decides the order of the cards, and right now Inuyasha is on top, ahead of Sesshomaru and Kagome Higurashi.
Our popularity ranking combines two things: how often people search for each character and your votes. The ranking is updated every month, and the Fan Favorites list changes every day. The first-seen line on each card shows the episode where the character first appears.

Toga, the Great Dog Demon, often called by his title Inu no Taisho. This mighty demon lord had two sons: Sesshomaru, whose mother is a dog demon herself, and the half-demon Inuyasha, born to the human princess Izayoi. One of his fangs became Inuyasha's sword Tessaiga (Tetsusaiga).
