My Dress-Up Darling Characters

My Dress-Up Darling Main Characters

My Dress-Up Darling follows Wakana Gojo, a quiet first-year who wants to become a hina doll craftsman like his grandfather, and Marin Kitagawa, a popular classmate who is always surrounded by friends. When Marin catches him using the sewing machine in the home ec room, she asks him to make her a Shizuku Kuroe costume, and their cosplay partnership becomes the heart of the story. Sajuna Inui, the famous cosplayer Juju, soon hires Gojo too and brings along her sister Shinju, and at cosplay events they meet photographer Suzuka Itou, crossplayer Amane Himeno and prop maker Akira Ogata.

Do Marin and Gojo Get Together?

Yes, they do. Marin realizes she has fallen for Gojo early on, while she watches him and his grandfather work out the details of one of her costumes, and she keeps her feelings to herself for most of the story while he slowly opens up to her. In chapter 107 Gojo finally confesses, Marin answers with a kiss and the two start dating. A photo in chapter 115 shows that they later married, and the epilogue in chapter 115.5 introduces their daughter, Nichika Gojo. The confession comes in the manga's final arc, after the point where the second season of the anime ends.

Marin's Cosplays in Order

Cosplay is what brings Marin and Gojo together, and almost every arc of the story is built around one of her costumes. Gojo sews most of them himself, from Shizuku Kuroe's gothic gown to Rei Kogami's white suit, and over time he also learns to do Marin's makeup. Some costumes are ready-made, like Sakuya Shiratori's movie uniform and Rose's nun habit, and one, Prisoner Veronica, was put away before it ever reached a photo shoot.

Juju and Shinju Inui

Sajuna Inui, better known by her cosplay name Juju, is a high school second-year who is so petite that people take her for a child, while her little sister Shinju is a middle schooler who stands 178 cm tall. Juju has dreamed of becoming a magical girl since she first saw Shion Nikaido in Flower Princess Blaze!!, and she mostly cosplays magical girls. Shinju takes her sister's photos and created her online account, and she secretly longs to cosplay too, which she finally does as the older brother Soma from the same series.

The Gojo Family and Marin's Father

Gojo lost his parents when he was small and grew up with his grandfather, Kaoru Gojo, a master hina doll craftsman who taught him the craft at the family business, Gojo Dolls. His older cousin Miori, who works in sales at the shop, babysat him back then and still looks out for him, and her mother Harumi, Gojo's aunt, specializes in the dolls' hair. Marin's mother died when Marin was very young, and her father, Masumi Kitagawa, often works abroad, so she lives on her own most of the time.

Marin's Friends and Classmates

At school Marin spends her days with her three closest friends, Nowa Sugaya, Daia Yahiro and Rune Yamauchi, who welcome Gojo once he starts hanging out with her. Kensei Morita first writes Gojo off for liking dolls until his best friend Shiki Kashiwagi sets him straight, and while the class gets ready for the school festival, Seira Kasai shows Marin and Gojo how to make a rainbow rose for Marin's Rei Kogami cosplay.

Cosplay Friends: Amane, Akira, Suzuka and Miyako

Marin and Gojo meet Amane Himeno at an aquarium cosplay event, where the crossplayer is dressed as Subaru Hatsusegawa from Space Idols Cosmic Lovers. Out of costume he is Chitose Amano, a 20-year-old who found his confidence through crossplay. Photographer Suzuka Itou first runs into Marin at her very first event and later teaches her to shoot with a new DSLR camera. Gojo arranges to meet prop maker Akira Ogata, whose work he admires online, and she turns out to be Suzuka's friend. Amane, Suzuka, Akira and cosplayer Miyako Honda then invite Marin and Gojo to a group cosplay of the horror game Coffin.

My Dress-Up Darling Ages, Heights and Birthdays

Marin and Gojo are 15 when the story begins, first-years in the same class, while Juju is 17 and a second-year at an all-girls high school. Shinju is still in middle school, yet at 178 cm she is taller than Marin, who stands 164 cm, and Gojo tops them both at 185 cm. Akira and Amane are 20, and Gojo's cousin Miori is 26 or 27.
