Enhancement (Enhancers)
Enhancers strengthen their own bodies and anything they hold, which makes them the toughest fighters in a straight brawl. Their aura raises attack and defense alike, the most balanced mix on the chart.
Transmutation (Transmuters)
Transmuters give their aura the qualities of something else, such as electricity, rubber or thread. The aura only behaves like that thing; it never becomes a real object.
Conjuration (Conjurers)
Conjurers shape their aura into solid objects, like a chain or a vacuum cleaner, that they can call up and dismiss at will. Many tie strict rules to their creations, which makes them even more powerful.
Specialization (Specialists)
Specialists have abilities that fit none of the other five types, like stealing another user's Nen or reading memories with a touch. The type is rare and sits opposite Enhancement on the hexagon.
Manipulation (Manipulators)
Manipulators take control of living things or objects with their aura, usually through a medium such as a needle, an antenna or a phone. Once their condition is met, the target moves however the user wants.
Emission (Emitters)
Emitters can send aura away from their bodies and keep it working on its own, as blasts, bullets or even small beings that act at a distance. They are the long-range fighters of the Nen chart.

What are the six Nen types?
Enhancement, Transmutation, Emission, Conjuration, Manipulation and Specialization. Every Nen user is born with an affinity for one of them, and that type decides which abilities come most naturally.
How do you find out your Nen type in Hunter x Hunter?
With water divination. A leaf floats on a glass of water, and the user holds their hands around the glass and uses Ren. More water means Enhancer, a new taste means Transmuter and a new color means Emitter. Impurities in the water point to a Conjurer, a moving leaf to a Manipulator and any other change to a Specialist.
How does the Nen chart work?
The six types sit around a hexagon. A user can master their own type at 100%, the two types next to it at 80%, the next two at 60% and the opposite type at only 40%, so most fighters build their abilities close to home.
What Nen type are Gon and Killua?
Gon is an Enhancer, which suits his simple, straightforward nature. Killua is a Transmuter, and he gives his aura the qualities of electricity.
